The UK Government has provided the Welsh Government with unprecedented levels of financial support to help businesses and households through the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of £5.2 billion has been approved for this financial year and £776 million has already been approved for next year. However, the Welsh Government haven't been using that money to help the people who need it most. £655 million of this year's Covid relief funding remains unused, with only weeks left until the end of the financial year. And the Welsh Government have only planned to spend £77 million of next year's funding, leaving another £689 million unaccounted for. Your hard earned money is being hoarded away in Cardiff Bay and it is nothing short of scandalous.
Throughout Wales, £655 million could be:
- Over £3,000 for every small business, helping to protect thousands of jobs and livelihoods,
- Nearly £6,000 to help every unemployed person back into work - getting people back on their feet,
- More than £3,200 for every self-employed person - supporting some of the hardest hit by the pandemic,
- Just under £30m for Flintshire County Council to expand social care provision - making sure the most vulnerable in our society are protected,
- A Council Tax freeze in Flintshire, keeping the cost of living down,
- Nearly £500m for every school in Wales - supporting pupils after a disruptive year.
This is your money. Sign my petition below and tell the Labour-led Welsh Government to end the Covid relief money scandal.
